Turbine Hall A
The A Station housed two Metropolitan Vickers steam turbines, which powered two MW direct coupling alternators. All have since been removed.
Like the boiler room, the Turbine Hall is a rectangular building running north to south, on the west side of the building. It is of an equal length and approximately 22m in height with a series of windows bridging the gaps between two roof levels.
With a strong system of columns and beams for the structural frame of the building, the external walls are reinforced with concrete and a rendered paint finish.
The mezzanine floor was originally set with quarry tiles or open-mesh steel flooring with walls finished to a metre or so high glazed ceramic tiles.
